How to use Offline First mode in the mobile app
A detailed guide to working without internet and the three sync methods available.
What is Offline First?
OutSmart's mobile app is built with an offline-first architecture. This means your data is stored locally on the device and synchronised with the server when a connection is available. Technicians can keep working even in basements, tunnels or rural areas with no signal.
What you can do offline
- View your assigned work orders and their details
- Register hours and materials against a work order
- Take and attach photos
- Collect customer signatures
What requires an internet connection
- Creating new work orders
- Changing the schedule or assigning work orders
- Accessing BackOffice features
Synchronisation options
- Auto-sync: The app syncs approximately every 15 minutes when online.
- Manual sync: Pull down on the work order list to trigger an immediate sync.
- Full sync (reinstall): Re-downloads all data from the server. Use only when advised by support, as it temporarily removes locally queued changes that have not yet been uploaded.
Best practices
- Perform a manual sync before entering areas with no connectivity.
- Avoid performing a full sync unless directed by support — it re-downloads everything and may discard pending local changes.
- Keep the app updated to the latest version for the best offline experience.
